Igor Soukmanov to visit the 62nd Berlin Film Festival

Igor Soukmanov, program director of Minsk IFF “Listapad”, will take part in the International film market within the framework of 62nd Berlin Film Festival. The trip is organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and Goethe-Institute in Minsk.

Igor Soukmanov aims to select movies for the XIX MIFF “Listapad”. He will also participate in the annual FIAPF meeting for accredited-festivals (MIFF “Listapad” got the FIAPF accreditation in June 2011).

This year Berlinale will be held on February 9-19. The competition program comprises 18 films among which are “A Moi Seule/Coming Home” by Frédéric Videau, “Aujourd’hui” by Alain Gomis, “Bai lu yuan/White Deer Plain” by Chinese director Wang Quan'an.

The 62nd Berlin International Film Festival will open at the Berlinale Palast on February 9, 2012 with the world premiere of the period drama “Les Adieux à la reine” (Farewell My Queen) that features such international stars as Diane Kruger, Léa Seydoux and Virginie Ledoyen.


Among the other films of the main competition are “Gnade” by Matthias Glasner, “Kebun binatang / Postcards From The Zoo” by Indonesian director Edwin Edwin, “Sister/ L’enfant d’en haut” - an upcoming Swiss drama film directed by Ursula Meier, “Meteora” by Spiros Stathoulopoulos and others.

Billy Bob Thornton will present his film “Jayne Mansfield's Car” in the competition program.

On February 14 Meryl Streep will get Golden Bear Honorary Award for the contribution to the cinema. Angelina Jolie will present the film “In the Land of Blood and Honey” - her debut work as film director.

More than 400 works will be shown within the framework of Berlinale -2012.

Mike Leigh will head the International Jury. The other members are Anton Corbijn (The Netherlands), Asghar Farhadi (Iran), Charlotte Gainsbourg (France), Jake Gyllenhaal (USA), François Ozon (France), Boualem Sansal (Algeria) and Barbara Sukowa(Germany).
