Le Voyage dans la Lune

On the screen is “L’homme-orchestre”– a fantastic short film by Georges Melies where there are 7 exposures. The dynamic action is developing to the even more dynamic music…

Maybe in the very beginning of the XX century the screenings of silent movies were held like that: with a pianist and a barker. On November 11, 2011 the spectators of the Small Hall of the Palace of the Republic felt the atmosphere of the turn of the century.

A cinema-concert is a very peculiar event for Belarusian audience. If there are some pianists that come here, the descendents of Georges Melies have never been there.

« L’homme à la tête de caoutchouc » is on the screen and Marie-Helene Leherissey, great grand-daughter of the great cinematographer says that it was the first time when zoom was used in the cinema. Lawrence Leherissey created the music that accompanied every movie and fascinated the audience by the world of silent movies.

The cinema-concert “Georges Melies” was held within the framework of the XVIII MIFF “Listapad” with the assistance of French Embassy in the Republic of Belarus.
